ESG AND CORPORATE VALUE: A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS

Abstract

The environmental, social, and governance (ESG) is one of the rapidly growing areas of research, since there are high expectations of the integration of sustainability issues in corporate decision-making and value generation. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the emergence, intellectual structure, thematic progression, and patterns of collaboration in the literature about the ESG and corporate value through the use of bibliometric analysis. The analysis will be based on the visualization of keyword co-citations, thematic progression, citations, collaboration of authors, institutions, and countries with the help of the software program VOSviewer. It turns out that ESG, sustainability, and sustainable development are the key themes in the literature under consideration and they are highly connected with such aspects as financial performance, investment, corporate governance, stakeholders management, ESG performance, and sustainability reporting. As for the thematic progression, it shows the transition from previous concentration on such aspects as governance, finance, and investment to the emerging ones like sustainable development goals, circular economy, ESG performance, and sustainability reporting. The citation analysis demonstrates the significance of researches on the connection between ESG issues and finance, financial performance, corporate governance, disclosure, innovation, and market aspects.
